Canada started its Canada PNP Program in the year 1998 to address the raise in the migrants’ work force requirement in the provinces. Since its inception, Provincial nomination program has been second most important immigration pathway for aspirants wanting to migrate to Canada. On December 22nd, 2021, Canada invited 746 individuals to apply for permanent residency in Canada, thus increasing their human capital score by additional 600 points. These successful applicants had received their nomination from the respective provinces. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada (IRCC) had been holding draws since September 2021 for Provincial nomination applicants. The draw held on 22nd December is 8th of its kind in the row.

Throughout 2021, there has been no draws held for Federal skilled worker program. IRCC has only held draws targeting PNP nominations and Canadian Experience Class. However, IRCC has currently stopped taking applications for CEC category since, it intends to clear the backlog of applications under the same. The intention behind this preference was allowance of permanent residency visa for those who have temporary visa since lockdown. However, with airpaths opening again, Canada is preparing to invite international migrants. In 2021 alone, Canada has sent “Invitation to Apply” (ITAs) to 114,431 successful applicants. This is more than the number of ITAs sent out in 2020.

What is Provincial Nominee Program?

Provincial Nominee Program is one of the pathways through which interested migrants can relocate to a chosen Province in Canada. The ten provinces in Canada are actively participating in the Provincial nomination Program. These provinces have the right to choose the best candidate to fit in to their province. Such chosen candidates will be awarded nomination from the province which would help further increase the score of the candidate and fortify the individual’s dream to relocate to Canada. Once, the candidate is nominated, he/she can then apply for ITA with IRCC. IRCC would then select candidates through a draw and sends ITAs. Once the ITA is received, the successful candidate and move on to apply for permanent residency with Canada.

Provincial nominee program is points based and was started in the year 1998. The program invites both skilled professionals and business investors to the province. In the recent past, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are seeing a raise in the number of applications. A major benefit of PNP is the amount of time it takes to process the application. Just as other programs, this immigration program too allows main applicant, spouse and dependant children to apply together for the program.
