Germany Residency by Investment Program is an initiative taken up by the German Government to encourage more entrepreneurs with vivid ideas and investors to invest in Germany either in an already-running business or in a new business venture.

About Germany-

Germany is one of those rare countries that has tried to retain most of its nature intact and is yet one of the world’s strongest growing economies. § 21 AufenthG Act (German Residence Act)-

Entrepreneurs, Business Investors, and self-employed individuals can earn their residence permit through this act by either investing in a running business (that is acquiring a business) or by establishing a New German Company. Individuals wanting to invest in Real Estate in Germany, under privileged cases can also apply under this act.

To be eligible to apply under this act you should-

I. Have a minimum investment of Eur 300,000 – 350,000

II. Be a foreign national not living in Germany at the time of application

III. Proof/documentation like a business plan that your investment will have a positive effect on the German Economy

Who can apply under this act-

-Foreign Entrepreneurs who want to set up a start-up business in Germany

-Foreign Entrepreneurs who want to set up an overseas branch in Germany

Freelancers, Directors, managers, and legal representatives of business partnerships and stock corporations can apply through this act as long as they do not have employee status.

Such investors would qualify for long long-term ‘D’ VISA and temporary residence permit to live in Germany.

The longevity of this VISA is 2 to 3 years which can be extended further. After 3 years of living in Germany, one qualifies for a Permanent Settlement Permit in Germany. To qualify for the Permanent Settlement Permit, the applicant needs to visit Germany at least once every year during the 3 years.

§ 9 section 2 AufenthG (Permanent Settlement Permit)-

The German Permanent Residency VISA or Permanent Settlement Permit is granted for 3 years. High net-worth Individuals, who have demonstrated subsistence qualify for this program.

German Citizenship-

Individuals who have continuously lived in Germany for 8 years qualify for Naturalizing for Citizenship in Germany. Such individuals cannot have any criminal record and should be able to show sufficient finances to support themselves in Germany apart from having German language fluency.
