Federal Skilled Trades Program

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is one of the path ways to acquire a permanent residence VISA to immigrate to Canada. Any individual who is skilled enough in trades listed by the Canadian Government can apply under this program. This program is not applicable for Quebec province. To qualify under this program, you need to have

Minimum Requirements:

• Required levels in English or French as is needed
• Have a minimum of two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the last five years
• Meet all the job requirements for that skilled trade as is set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), and
• Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a provincial or territorial body.

Work Experience

• Candidates could have either worked 2 years at a job for 30 hours every week, or done part-time work for 15+ hours each week, the total of which amounts to 3,120 hours over 2 years.
• Candidates possessing experience in one of the following occupations are accepted for this program
• Industrial, electrical and construction trades
• Maintenance and equipment operation trades
• Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
• Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
• Chefs and cooks
• Butchers and bakers

Education

Applicants under FSTP need not possess any degree from universities however, it would be preferable for you to have either a

• a secondary school (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree obtained in Canada, or
• An Education Credential Assessment (ECA) done and provide the report at the time of application.

Language Ability

Candidates must undergo an English and/or French language test and the candidates are expected to

• meet the minimum level benchmark of 5 for speaking and listening, and minimum of benchmark 4 for reading and writing,
• Provide original test results from an approved language testing center.
• Their profile must be part of the Express Entry Pool.
